timbo343 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 To those that use 3CX cloud hosted, is there a way to stop all numbers hitting an extension but yet only allow a select few through to the extension? Basically, we have a group of techs that all have extensions and we dont want staff ringing them directly, yet we would like only a select few extensions to directly call them. Also if the techs call from their extensions can their extensions present as another extension?
TechMonkey Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Bit of a janky solution but you could hide the number from address book and then only let certain people have the extension to dial. But if someone receives a call from them and notes the ext down they could dial it. You could look at the Boss-Secretary function, this directs all calls to a certain number, but you can put some exceptions in. No experience of this though so I don't know if this is exactly what you want. 1
timbo343 Posted February 26 Author Posted February 26 Thanks, the extensions are already hidden which like you have mentioned would work until the staff member rings another extension and those savvy staff will note the ext number down. Hmmm, i wonder if Boss-Secretary might work. Maybe Assign a Secretary/PA as the main IT Support number or a dead / not used voicemail only extension and then add teh Allowed Direct Callers... that might ba an idea! Update - Boss-Secretary has worked. I created an empty extension and disabled it and removed the Voicemail. All calls go to this empty extension except those numbers / extensions which are allowed to calll the extension.
MrEprise Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I've not used 3CX myself (still on Avaya) but a quick search came up with this on the 3CX forums. Quote Make an inbound CID rule with a mask of * with a destination of END CALL, then make an inbound CID rule for each number that is allowed and put it ahead of the * rule. If you need this to be database driven, voiptools has a caller-id router add-on that can read from a sql database. You can have it route the matched numbers to one destination and anything unmatched to an end call route. No idea if it'll work in your case but may be useful.

TechMonkey Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Would an IT Queue work to direct the calls to? We have a queue that the techs are signed into and I can sign into if needed. That way all their phones ring if a call comes in, no single number is blocked by a call that has come in and we can direct calls, or turn them all off, when ever needed.

Possibly but for now we just want to put a block on those extensions. Im wanting staff to get used to ringing the main IT support ext rather than ringing someone's ext and being put through to an extension group.
MatthewL Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Can you put a speed dial button on all phones (if yours do it) for IT pointing to your ring group? Or you could setup an extension number (and manually) provision the phone as line 1 for that (all phones the same) when you dial out thats what is presented and then put a second line on with a different extension for select staff to ring or just between yourselves?
