Monitoring networks without Senso/Impero

I feel that this will have been discussed to death but can't find it anywhere.

 

I've been thinking about how we monitor activity on devices, and Senso does this quite well for devices that it supports.  Currently that's Windows and Macs, but that doesn't include iPads or any 'kiosk'-style OS we install on low-powered machines.  I find this really restricting, and I also think that the client-based nature of it makes it inherently unreliable.

 

Does anyone know any tricks to get Netsweeper to do something similar alert-wise using SSL interception?

Before we got Senso, we did our "monitoring" by reviewing a Netsweeper report once a week, and highlighting any areas of concern. It was PITA, to be honest, but without an agent on the device, that's about all you're left with. 

 

I'm sure you've already seen it, but the Senso approach to iPads is a custom iOS browser that forces the child to identify themselves at the start of each session. We didn't roll it out, as I'll be honest, it looked crap and would be a barrier to learning for our primary age group. 

 

iPads/Kiosk are really difficult for monitoring, because unless you're using Shared iPad (just nope) or have some way of tying a device IP to an end user, you just don't know who is on the device. Without that information, the monitoring is pointless.
