Needing some help - GPO?

Hello,

 

Sorry for the very basic question but needing some guidance please for a Windows 11 machine please.

 

 I've been asked to make sure when users click on the 'more sound setting' Within System -> Sounds -> Advanced the "more sound settings" the mmsys.cpl doesn't appear. People can still search for mmsys.cpl but been asked just to disable this button via GPO. Been looking for a good half day however still unable to find where to prevent this and seeing some guidance.

 

Understand it's a very basic question and any help would be greatly appericaited.

No question is very basic, always better to ask and learn than it is to stuggle and stress!

Just to add to this,

 

I completely understand why you might feel your question is "basic," but please know that it absolutely is not. Judging by your username (and this thread being your first post), it sounds like you might be venturing into the world of Windows domains and Group Policy Objects (GPOs) for the first time. Let me tell you, that area is a complex minefield even for seasoned professionals.

 

You should be incredibly proud of yourself for even attempting to tackle this and for reaching out for help. That takes real courage!

I spent many years before my manager allowed me to touch GPOs. I learned almost everything on the job, and trust me, I made plenty of mistakes along the way. Now, I manage the network and two other colleagues, and I know "my" environment like the back of my hand.

This journey is all about day by day, little by little. Think of it this way: Even a small rowboat can cross the Atlantic Ocean if you keep rowing. You are on the right path!

 

The people here are genuinely helpful and kind. If anyone is ever judgmental (which is rare), the admin team is great at keeping things in check. I personally struggle with articulating technical points clearly, and I rely on this forum and tools like AI to help me communicate. You're among friends!

 

Don't worry, you got this! Seriously, have a laugh and check out some of my first posts from my earlier days as a junior tech. We've all been there!

heres: my first post, look how many people tried to help..... i'd already been in the IT industry for sometime before this post.... but was new to windows domains or networks outside of my home router at the time.

Here is an example of mine, much like Jaan's but gives a different set of options for you to consider 



I try and allow things that will allow me to fix basic issues from the student or staff acount itself, just makes everyones life a little easier when it comes to problems.

My first foray into the world of group policy resulted in the s drive being uninstalled from all of the admin workstations and yes, it was at a SIMS school!!

HI everyone,

 

First of all thank you for everyone's kind words and assistance. I figured it out that late afternoon....

The sound was disabled within control panel settings which prevented that from appearing and when I added sound as one of the options that show in control panel it fixed itself, nice use of half a day....

Yeah that was it, I didn't have Sound in that....

I was searching for sound via the cmd / toolbar which works but then when trying to amend it wasn't working..... Thank you
