How To: AD/OD Authenticate the easy way!

I found this amazing little application when on the NetRestore forum.

 

This little application allows you to put your Active Directory and Open Directory settings onto one application and everytime you start up your computer it will bind your macs to both Open Directory and Active directory.

 

So for example:

 

Setup your Mac OS X image how you wish.

 

Login as root and install the autobind program.

 

When installed go into your system preferences and down the bottom click the autobind preference panel. In here you then need to put your network details in. Once done save your settings and thats all.

 

When you roll out your image the macs will autobind to OD/AD for you.

 

Be sure that when imaging the macs you use byhost preferences if you are imaging macs you already have so they keep their existing name.

How to enable the root user

Mac OS X 10.5 or later

 

From the Finder's Go menu, choose Utilities.

Open Directory Utility.

Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.

Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.

Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu

Enter the root password you wish to use in both the Password and Verify fields, then click OK.
