Jamf MacOS Wallpaper

I'm trying to understand how to deploy a simple wallpaper to our fleet of macOS using Jamf School

 

I've managed to deploy a wallpaper to our iPad perfectly fine, however it seems that it's not the case when it comes to the MacOS devices, jamf's documentation is saying i need to build a package etc ! for someone can just manage to get around Macs is difficult.

 

within Jamf 

 

if i go to Profiles > Overview > select my profile ( Music Wallpaper Settings ) > MacOS Payload > Restrictions >Functionality 

 

and look for the Lock Desktop picture - However, when I tick the box it's asking for a Desktop picture path.

 

and under Documents > inventory, I've uploaded the wallpaper 

 

i'm just not sure how i deliver this to the Macs 

 

any help would be great

I struggled with this. In the end, on each Mac when it was built, I copied the background to the Shared folder, changed the permissions on the file so Everyone could view, then set the path in Jamf to that. Bit of a pain, especially if you have loads of machines, but works fine.

If you have Jamf (with Composer) then it's slightly less of a pain. I found that it only works with local images, so created a package in Composer to drop the college's wallpaper in /Users/Shared/Background. Then just set the owner to root:wheel and make it read-only for everyone so that the image doesn't go anywhere.

 

We then have a configuration profile in Jamf that forces the background: 'Restrictions > Functionality > Lock Desktop Picture' with the path set to '/Users/Shared/Background/XyzCollegeBackground.jpg'.

 

Setting the login screen background is a completely different story, and from what I gather, seems to be impossible. Maybe one day our Mac suites will look as nice as the Windows ones... not that it really matters :)
