Running flash application (exe)

Hi 

We are looking to migrate our on premises shared drives to the cloud shared drive

Some staff use a softare on shared drive that is a EXE (flash based application) that links to pdf and videos etc

 

How do you guys overcome that if you move to cloud shared drive?

 

Can we run that via Google shared drive?

I used to package it all and deploy to the local C Drive of the devices. Simple script to copy the data onto the C Drive and create some shortcuts in the start menu.

I know its not what you're asking, but from a security perspective, I would get staff to look for newer software as Flash is completely unsupported and Adobe flash player has been EoL since circa 2020. I'd be really surprised if you can get that working properly on a fully up to date system. I work in finance now and having anything like that would have alarm bells ringing and questions asked immediately!

downloading and running an EXE from the cloud is going to get blocked by anti-virus or browser restrictions.

 

You have a few options

 

1. Copy all the linked PDF, video resources and host in online folders

2. Copy the Exe and resource folders to each desktop and run locally.  It unlikely these will ever be updated as original publisher would have provided them on CD-ROM

Agreed. "Sorry, that software is unsupported and can't be used".

Yeh we've nocked on the head all of that kind of "CD" software from like 2005. It's too risky nowadays.  Bout time some staff moved on to some more modern teaching resources!

I *think* places like 2Simple et al, used to have everything as flash but they rewrote much of their content using newer tech so they could continue selling their resources.

Had this with some MFL resources. Told them to get something more up to date and will not be inviting security risks onto the network! Strongly suggest you do the same.

I tell them that it's no longer supported so they need to find a better resource that isn't filled with security risks.
