any IT jobs within Kent, Surrey or London are for IT within schools, i've worked within a school before and would like to get back into it as a ICT Technician, Senior Technician or even IT Manager?

I worked in a school for 4 years as a Senior ICT Technician, it was a brand new school, all the latest technology (laptops, wireless, pda's etc etc).

 

Then moved into the london area working for a media company doing IT Support for 1 year, didnt really enjoy it.

 

My current role at present I have been with for 3 years, I work for a Outsouced IT Company, mixture of clients, all hands on, lots of 2nd and 3rd line work.

 

Skills, All MS Windows based software from 95 too Vista/2008, ms exchange 2000, 2003 and 2007, install of networks, servers, switches, racks, cabling, deployments.....plus alot more in cv!

 

Im the hands on person who does 2nd and 3rd line work, im on 26k atm, willing only to go as low as 25k and up as far as poss.

After 7 years IT experience i can't see for the life of me why you'd be willing to take a pay cut to work in a school - even if it is only 1k less than what you currently earn.....you won't get the training and experience in the necessary specialist skills in a school that will justify taking a pay cut in most instances....

 

7 years experience, Kent area, and all those skills you've mentioned....the

26k salary your on at the moment is pretty crap. If your next role isn't 30k+ then you know your doing something wrong. Wanting to move into school IT doesn't seem like a very progressive move - are the opportunities in your current org that restricted ? not to mention the opportunities in industry in your region ?, or are you looking for an easy ride by wanting to go back into school IT. I would recommend anyone either looking to move into school IT or return to working in the education sector, to look at LA opportunities instead. Either that, or look at only the very well paid IT Manager posiiton in a well funded school (role should pay 35k minimum for south-east).

Yeah, I can understand that yes, what I'm really looking for is an IT Manager role but they are hard to come by and no im not looking for a easy ride thank you.

 

I have applied for one 10mins down the road to where I live, its paying 30k for a Network Manager.

Just to put another point of view - I took a massive paycut to move to my current school 8 years ago because I wanted to change lifestyle. My salary now is still less than I would be earning if I'd stayed at the college I was at, however (and this is the important thing) I now get 9 to 11 weeks off a year, a salary that I can live on reasonably well and live in the Lake District, allowing me to kayak, climb and walk pretty much whenever I want. Also I get involved in directing drama productions, outdoor pursuits weeks and weekends etc. - none of which I would get in an LEA job.

 

Sure you have to pay the bills but there is so much more to working in a school than just the job you are employed to do and that whole package may be a good reason for the OP to want to get back into it.

 

I wouldn't call schools IT an easy ride but it can be a very rewarding one.

I agree with you there, when I worked at a school 4 years ago or so, it wasnt just IT IT IT all the time, I did get involved with the kids and help them too, I enjoyed to so much and miss it and wanna go bk too it but this time with good pay.
