In GP some of the drives are mapped like \\domain\shares$\folder1 but I am unable to see the share 'shares$' in server manager or computer management, it's just not listed. An explorer window will show the contents of \\domain\shares$ and they are just shortcuts to other shares, some of which have been deleted but the shortcut remains. When I try to delete the shortcut for the missing share I get an error saying item not found.

Any idea where shares$ is managed?

\\server\share$ will show up in Computer Management > Shares

\\Domain\share$ implies it's DFS so you will need to open up DFS Management and add your DFS servers to the Namespaces section to find it.

Thanks. I had looked at DFS Management but it was empty so adding the server name brought up the shares.

All my shares are hidden and all show up in computer management / shares

If it doesnt then I don't recon it's actually a share or maybe has been unshared somehow?

DFS shares wont show up in Computer Management / Shares though as they are not shared via the computer but via the domain using the Distributed Files System and the only way to see them is via the DFS Management app and you will need to know the Namespace server(s) to view them.
