Windows 11 - Run as administrator

Hi all,

 

Hope you are well.

 

Weird one. In Windows 10, when I right click Powershell run as administrator I get the login box to sign in with my admin credentials.

 

In Windows 11, when I click Terminal (Admin) or right click Powershell run as administrator I get "this app has been blocked by your system administrator". At the moment, my test Windows 11 PC is in my standard with the Windows 10 machines.

Hi Theldron,

 

It might be worth trying "Run as different user"

 

1. Type "WT.exe" into the search box in the start menu

2. Click "Open file location"

3. Hold down CTRL+Shift and right click on either WindowsTerminal.exe or wt.exe and click "Run as different user"

 

You should then be able to enter your domain administrator credentials.

As in, do you have any SRP/Applocker policies at all in your OU? Originally I had heard you need separate policies for 10 and 11, then I heard it was OK to use the same... maybe there are now a few settings that require Windows 11 only ADMX files?

Hi all, thanks. I used Copilot and it was a setting in the Windows 11 24H2 baseline, to block behaviour of the elevation prompt. Edited that and it's fine.

 

Yeah I heard you needed separate then I was told, you are fine using the same. The only thing I did was use the baseline.
