To be more specific it is Lesson Monitor they change a mark and click on save and the loading blue circle just whirs around continually and doesn't save...

We were getting a crash to desktop, so could be a different issue. How many machines affected? I'd at least reboot the SIMS server at an ideal point (if locally hosted), and then over to SIMS support.

First thing we did was try a reboot but no luck. It seems to work when it wants and then just stop saving randomly. I have checked to make sure it is running low on resources and it isn't coming close to maxing out CPU or memory wise. It was getting low on disk space but I have expanded this as the SIMS server is a VM.

Anyone working on census?  We often see crashes when the Data Manager and SLT are running census reports and related bulk updates.

Unfortunately not, this has been an issue for a couple of days now. Odd it has come out of nowhere. The only change I can think has affected it would be the Spring 2025 update I did over the Easter break...

Could be, but also... are you *sure*.  ?

On more that one occasion here people have sworn blind they weren't running big reports/queries/updates, and a couple of hours with SQL Server (most of which was learning how to use Profiler if I remember correctly) showed that they were in fact running big queries relating to the up coming census (or similar).

Do you have any other systems that talk into/pull from sims?

Are there any timetable changes or student moves going on?

Of course, it could be the Spring update... but this time of year is typically when we see exactly these sort of weird crashes/hangs and its usually the users doing things that lock tables causing update timeouts.

Timeout value is currently set to 288000 which I assume is default as I don't remember ever changing over 17 years...

Issue has resolved itself. There was an issue syncing data between SIMS and Satchel One & SIMS NG, we assume this was causing the issue with us saving marks in SIMS 7 lesson monitor as once the sync issue had been sorted the lesson monitor issue disappeared.
