chazzy2501 Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 yes, yes, YES. A bad value card but I want an upgrade... Well I had an RTX 3050 8GB so a nice upgrade but the 12100f is holding back the PC so hard the new card makes almost no difference.. Was thinking of going Ryzen 5600 or 7600, so £220 vs £400 (both new) second hand 5600 cpu and mobo combos (or separate) on ebay save almost no money.
Olliedawg Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 I have a Ryzen 5 7600x, been very pleased with it. Paired with a 4060. In hindsight i wished I had gone for an AMD RX card instead
Dos_Box Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 I'm still soldiering on with an 8GB RX580 and know I really need to upgrade now. TBH, I don't play many modern titles, but there are some coming soon (Half Life 3 seems to be on the cards - no pun intended) where if I don't upgrade soon, I won't be able to play. The whole situation with graphic cards and MSRP, is very off-putting though.
chazzy2501 Posted April 22, 2025 Author Posted April 22, 2025 RX580 was like £200, you'll never see value like that again.

I'd bought my son one from the seller for £150 and they sent two by mistake (lockdown had started just a few days before) and offered me the second at a great discount. I bet they regretted that sale later! They were unused and, I suspect, used as spares for crypto mining.

RX580 was a great card for the price, think mine was the Sapphire Nitro+ variant. I paid about £200 for mine too if i recall correctly. Got a few good years use out of it however eventually the card failed
PotNoodleTech Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 I am suprosed you've had no perfromance benefit at all?? I just got lucky and picked up a 4070 for 350 locally. Happy as it's 20-30% faster than my old 3070 founders and it has extra 4gb Vram for the future. I did think about the 5060ti but didnt think it would be faster than the 4070 and seems a bit buggy at the moment?
Bumhug360 Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 I don't see where the hate for the card is coming from. I am building a PC for my nephew and aiming to be as cheap as possible, at the moment looking at £930 with a 5060TI 16GB. For a 1440p gaming machine on a budget I cant see a better card available at the moment. As for the original question have you thought about an I5-13400F? £170 at the moment new and probably get away with same motherboard

ovenchips Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 Honestly the new AM5 Ryzen chips are absolute beasts and you can't go wrong, even if you were to pick up a previous gen one - bit more to pay upfront but the chip will last you 5 years minimum with no issue, and there'll be new chips out by then that will probably still be on the same socket assuming the mobo you pick gets a BIOS update to support them. For reference I recently moved from an i7 11700k to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and got virtually double (if not more) FPS in any CPU limited games I play (paired with a 3080 10GB) If you want to save money, then a second hand AM4 like you mentioned is still a decent workhorse for the price, but your upgrade route will be much more expensive down the line as the socket is EOL. 1
chazzy2501 Posted April 23, 2025 Author Posted April 23, 2025 ok, just bought a 13400f as it was only £109 on Amazon... 2

The drivers are total rubbish: https://youtube.com/shorts/wgpVqN02Bkg?si=NJlxy129o4Rn1U7n having to run my sound via a headphone adapter into my speakers as the monitor sound glitches all the time..
