Taylor1 Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Hello fellow DM's I'm after some interview advice from you all please. Not on the interview itself but on how you manage the request for leave - I know teachers are quite open about going for interviews and are allowed time off but what about support staff (realise it may be different school to school). Do you come clean and say you want time off for interview or do you say you want time off without specifying the need? I'm not unhappy where I am but the potential new post has larger salary. Any advice would be most welcome.
Ecclesbury Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 In my experience because school environments are so dominated by teachers that atmosphere of being open about interviews extends to all staff. They will almost certainly ask for a reason if you are requesting leave so that they can decide if it is unpaid or paid leave. For that reason alone it's worth being open about it as an interview should be paid leave. On a personal level I have always found it better to be open about it because it can start a discussion about how they might convince you to stay! Of course I can't speak for your relationship with your school/manager/headteacher but a lot of it will be down to their character.
Taylor1 Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 Thanks for the reply. Yes I have a great relationship with both Head and Line Manager hence my dilemma. I agree that by telling them in advance it gives them some time to think how hard they want to keep me too,
