This information provides an indication of how schools are currently performing on these measures, to help prepare for implementation of Progress 8 in 2016. It can also help schools to decide whether to opt in early1 for 2015 results. The information shows an overall Attainment 8 and Progress 8 score for the school, for disadvantaged pupils, and pupil-level data that shows the scores achieved in each component of Attainment 8. Alongside the information, we have also provided pupil and school ready reckoner tools to allow schools to calculate Progress 8 scores for individual pupils and to see how these scores have been used to calculate their school Progress 8 score. Later this academic year we will share further information with schools to show progress made in each of the components of Progress 8, including a breakdown of the 'open' component into GCSE and non-GCSE qualifications.

CAM Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 It just landed in my inbox. Something called School Performance Data Unit from RM's domain. I guess they are contracted by the DfE and I'm a named contact somewhere.
CAM Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 OK, I logged in and picked up a copy of the CSV (don't opt in to Progress 8 by the way! You don't need to!). The sheet is huge and I'm not entirely sure how to make sense of it. :/

QWERTY72 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Hi I also received the email with my username and saying that the password for the 2015 Progress 8 Opt-in Website is the same as the one for the standard checking exercise, but when I try to log in it says that "the school is not valid in the database"! And nobody at RM picking up the phone!! No advisers available at this moment, please send us an email! Just wondering if anybody else is experiencing the same issue?

Also some guidance notes and ready reckoners on there. Quite frankly, I think Progress 8 is becoming absurdly over-complicated reading the notes. :/ Oh and Click on Summary as well, it has a quick overview of results.

CAM Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Ahhh no I made a mistake, I thought you were trying to click on the Opt-In tab after logging in. Sorry, didn't have the site open! The first link you posted was right. Just...stay away from the opt-in tab when you do get in.

I really would like to kick the ass of whoever designs the ready reckoners - just a bit less design, and they'd be really useable, hate that I have to enter in ks2 data then go to another page to see what the expected A8 should be, just crap design really. give me a table where I can pop in all my students data, and the last column generates all of them at once - grrr!
QWERTY72 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Finally got through on the phone to RM and apparently a few servers are down, which explains why some of you can access tha data whilst others like myseld can't. Hopefully they "will have fixed the problem by this afternoon sometime".

LosOjos Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 @tombry - not seen the P8 ready reckoner yet, but we use the KS5 one a lot - I ended up adding in a sheet that I can drop a SIMS report in to and it does various lookups to automatically generate the layout expected by RR to copy/paste in the correct place. Took an afternoon to set up, but it's now a 5 minute job to update! Hoping to do something similar with this P8 one when I get my hands on it

tombry Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 @LosOjos - I plan on trying to tear apart the P8 one later, only had 109 students to populate into it... I'm just using it to get a better figure for our Y10s, but it's making them look awful! I know the idea is that they'll actually be compared against what their cohort achieves, and not last year's cohort, but it can't end up changing that much can it?

LosOjos Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 @tombty - it was my understanding that current Y10 will be judged against the previously published figures for 2013? This is what our SLT believe to be the case, I didn't think it sounded right though... Problem with those 2013 figures is that they're pure speculation, the latest figures aren't going to be much different I don't expect, but next year's should be significantly different, the year after that also, as schools adapt to the changes. They'll probably level out from 2018 onwards I'd have thought...

I have been working with my SLT to use those figures to see how we need to rethink how we do options, in order to maximize every kids points. I'm using the Pupil RR to get their expected A8, as currently I use their FFT targets (EP/BEP) to generate it, and figure the RR will give a more accurate picture - hope I'm not spinning my wheels needlessly...

LosOjos Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Digging in to this, I'm not happy about how these changes are going to affect lower ability students. Not only has the low, low/mid end of the estimated outcome been raised much more than the higher end, the potential points for lower grades has been dropped. This is going to make it much more difficult for the lower ability students than previous figures have indicated...
tombry Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Yeah, not keen on the changes to the points values - but that's only until new GCSEs come in - I imagine 2016 is going to be a mess, but slowly will improve. As for your low ability students, most of mine are looking fantastic, as it almost seems they don't expect them to sit both English and Lit, and for current year 10, the GCSE they'll sit next year will count double regardless. It seems my mid and high attainers are the ones that are going to bring the school down, my internal figures (prior to using the RR) have us estimated at a -.10, after using the RR....well, I'm just not going to share that number, but it's bad news!
LosOjos Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I've not got hold of the RR yet (waiting for login details) so can't say how it'll affect us as a school, but I think we'll be fine; our low attainers have always been a strong point. On a national level though, this update just seems to be weighting things favourably towards high attainers; previously, I was excited by Progress 8 as it gave a level playing field to all abilities (unlike A*-C based measures) but it looks like it's already being skewed before it's even got off the ground.
