Validated RAISE

So the validated Raise was release a few days ago and i have been in the process of un picking it to apply the principles to our own assessment tracking, but to start with applied it to our GCSE results from 2013.

 

I used thee RAISE manuals and the KS4pup.csv from tables checking website https://tableschecking.education.gov.uk (this shows all of the students qualifications they achieved)

 

I was under the impression that English would count double if a Literature element was also present, however i have found a few anomolies

 

Student 1

 

Maths = D

iGCSE English Language = D (there is no mention of a literature grade on tableschecking)

 

Maths Bonus on RAISE = 34

English Bonus on RAISE = 22

 

In this respect i expected 0 bonus points and not 22, infact the student in question didnt get a grade in anything that would equate to 22 points!

 

Student 2

 

Maths = D

iGCSE English Language = C

English Studies = C

 

Maths Bonus on RAISE = 34

English Bonus on RAISE = 34

 

Where on earth did they get 34 points from when both English grades are a C (40 points)

 

Student 3

 

Maths = C

iGCSE English Language = B

English Studies = D

 

Maths Bonus on RAISE = 40

English Bonus on RAISE = 40

 

Where on earth did they get 40 points for English bonus (unless they averaged the 2 English grades, but that wouldnt solve Student 2!)

 

I have also noticed that that i have 10 students with the following senario.....

 

All have a pass grade in iGCSE English Language but ALL have a U grade in iGCSE English Literature

 

ALL of these students have a bonus figure for English that matches their grade..... So does this mean that a grade is not needed in English Literature as long as you sit the exam you will get the bonus points?

Well Annex C in this document solves my 10 students with a U, but doesnt explain the other 3 Linky

 

For these measures we ignore discounting and look at whether a pupil has achieved a grade C or above in English GCSE or achieved a grade C or above in English Language GCSE/iGCSE. If pupils take English Language then they must also obtain a grade A*-G or U grade in English Literature GCSE/iGCSE for the English Language GCSE/iGCSE to count in English specific measures. An award in English Language GCSE/iGCSE only will not meet the criteria for English specific performance measures.

Did the people who did iGCSE English Language do Lit as well? If not, is there something else they might be using as the English grade, saying the Lang sans Lit doesn't count?

 

I had the opposite issue. We had everyone doing a full counts by itself English course, and some did Lit on top of it. Even in September, when I did the checks on the unvalidated data, they were counting the Lit grade if it was better - expect it now, but didn't then.

I had a similar issue and if the student didn't have a Lit grade their Lang grade was not counted. Some of the students had a different English qual such as an Adult Literacy and that was used instead for the English bonus. Would this apply to student 1 or student 2??
