Honestly this is more of a rant than anything.

First it was 2FA, passwords not strong enough etc

Now it's the bloody password resets!

One of my staff are having a nightmare as they need to reset their password but cannot seem to make any progress.

I have just sat there and gone through the entire process with her, only to find, their website / emails / system DOES NOT WORK.

They have also sent her an email, requesting that she goes into the browsers password manager and DELETE all entries to do with edexcel - then to request a password reset.

After doing this and not being able to click the link in the email, she has emailed customer support, who have sent her the classic "please check these websites and ports are on your allow lists".

She brings it to me for help, I start from the beginning and request password reset link, I manage to extract the new password reset link from the email source (as it's not clickable or copy-able), paste it into a browser and:

ERROR | Unable to reset your password/input/queryFilter: Expecting a value

Arrrrrrrrrgh!!! :frusty::frusty::smash::smash:

Has anyone had any progress or luck dealing with pearson in recent times?

Do you have accounts being managed by an exam officer at all? If so, check that the email address for the affected user matches up with what the EO has in their dashboard.

Also, trying this stuff in a private browsing window is always a good idea, in case of wonky browser cookies/cache, etc.

I will check with our exams officer and get the staff member to try on mobile...

It just shouldn't be so difficult to reset a password, like, what on earth are they doing over there :twitch:

Its not by any chance this portal is it?

https://edexcelonline.pearson.com/

We had a very similar issue, there tech support suggested we instruct staff to reset passwords at home rather than at work

Turned out, the Javascript which they use to enforce password complexity was hosted on a site different to the web host for the rest of the site. Our web filter was blocking that other site. We ended up unblocking http://springboot-dev.priv.pearsondev.tech (i think it was that, do an F12 in your web browser and look for where any *.js files are being pulled from). Did that and voila, it works.

I'll be honest, I didn't bother informing Pearson support, I didn't fancy the argument.

Yea I was aware of the dictionary / complexity issues. Thankfully we had to move away from our previous ISP which forced us into Smoothwall and the new ISP uses Netsweeper which is incredibly better in most every way. Since we moved over, those complexity issues are a thing of the past (and most other web filtering issues to be fair!)

Maybe it's just a blip and this staff member was our only victim...

Only time will tell, have not recieved word back from them since I cc'd myself on the email I sent them with her however.

🤷‍♂️
