[Teams] letting a shared mailbox email Teams channel/adding a shared mailbox to Team

BMS alerts go to a shared mailbox, the maintenance team want this to then generate an alert in Teams

 

Right-click channel, Get email address, set up forwarding rule on the shared mailbox, nice and easy.

 

Well, the alert never arrives. It works if members email, so I guess this is permissions, right? Add the mailbox to the team.. Er, can't?

Other shared mailboxes show up, so it's definitely possible, but this specific one I want doesn't.

 

It's not a UPN-based thing, as some of the other shared mailboxes that appear have their default onmicrosoft UPN.

It's not license based, either, other shared mailboxes that show up are all unlicensed as you'd expect.

 

Tried PowerShell,

Get-Team -displayname "[color="#0000FF"]Team name[/color]"
Add-TeamUser -GroupId [color="#0000FF"]Team ID[/color] -User [color="#0000FF"][email protected][/color]

This executes without any error or feedback at all, but the mailbox doesn't show up in the list of Members.

 

Trying

Add-TeamChannelUser -GroupId [color="#0000FF"]Team ID[/color] -DisplayName [color="#0000FF"]"Channel name"[/color] -User [color="#0000FF"][email protected][/color]

produces the following error:

Presumably adding a shared mailbox is possible because other mailboxes show up in the list.

Is there something in the mailbox config that needs setting before it becomes 'fully fledged'? I've tried comparing settings in Exchange and nothing looks any different to the ones that do show up.

I think this would be a job for power automate? Should be a simple flow that's triggered when an email is received, and posts the contents in a channel or chat.
