Google to remove existing reviews and ratings for schools in the UK and Ireland

⭐ Some good news this morning. Google will remove existing ratings and reviews on Google Maps for schools based in the UK and Ireland and turn off the ability to leave ratings and reviews in the future 🇬🇧 🇮🇪

 

Let's hope this is implemented for all schools globally! 🌏

Dear Google Workspace for Education customer,

 

You are receiving this message, because your institution is categorized as a General Education School by Google Maps.

 

We’re writing to inform you that starting February 18, 2025, Google Maps will remove existing reviews and ratings from your school's listing.

 

An email communication has also been sent to the contact for your school’s Google Business Profile.

 

What this means for your institution

Google Maps is making this change to align with Google Maps policies. This update is to remove the presence of unhelpful, harmful, and off-topic user reviews of general education schools, defined as primary and secondary education institutions.

 

This means that existing reviews and ratings will be removed, and users will not be able to submit new reviews and ratings for your institution.

 

What you need to do

No action is required from you. This change will automatically apply to all General Education Schools listed in your school’s Google Business Profile.

 

However, if you believe your institution is incorrectly categorized as a General Education School, you can change your Google Business Profile category before February 18, 2025 to prevent reviews or ratings from being removed.
