MS Class Notebook and The Future

Hi,

 

We are a Microsoft Windows Server / Client school with linked Google Accounts.

We are currently on Windows 10 with no plan in place to upgrade to Windows 11 :-(

 

I have just seen a post on the web that OneNote will be dropped in Windows 11 in favour of OneNote MS 365 App version. Is this online or Desktop?

 

Does anyone know what is the future of OneNotes ClassNotebook? When MS moves to Windows 11.

 

If we lose the Desktop version, I will have a host of very upset teachers!

I'm not sure Microsoft know what they want to do with Onenote...

 

First you had Onenote as part of Office, which stopped development at around OneNote 2016. Instead they brought out the App, helpfully called OneNote. This had it's good points, but wasn't as feature rich as OneNote 2016. Then they stopped developing the app, and brought out OneNote for Windows 10, which sort of amalgamated the two. Now they're killing off OneNote for Windows 10 in October 2025, and going back to just developing OneNote (formely Onenote 2016). Confused?

 

In a simple answer to your question, yes, there will still be a OneNote desktop application of some form, just check which version your running now and put in a plan to migrate as necessary.
