Office 2024 log files and simple errors that lead to an hour of frustration: the DDV!

Long standing issue I have with Office and pupil accounts.

 

When they save and choose "documents" it'll say "The operation has been cancelled due to restrictions..." When you press ok, documents opens just fine and you can save.

 

As the error isn't in the windows event log I've learned of the DDV Diagnostic Data Viewer for office. I can't get it to work. The store downloader is an EXE the exe installs an appx that is per user only... As the error is only for pupils that can't access the store, nor install from the EXE... For a program I haven't used and don't understand... There must be an alternative?!

Do you think it's actually an Office problem, I presume you didn't have this issue with previous versions? Do you have this problem when logged on as another user?

 

I'm actually not going to be much help here, but I have similar issues (although not with Office 2024) with trying to troubleshoot student (and even teacher) devices as they are so locked down I can't actually do anything 'extra' with them when logged in as the user...

 

I do get similar messages on 'save' for the students, but over the years I have created so many GPOs to disable things, lock save locations, hide drives, it may well be the message relates to another location that is blocked which is why you can OK through it?

 

My first suggestion would be (if you can) is try to remove an affected PC to a clean OU and see if the problem persists.

The issue has been around since forever but is so minor as to not get fixed. As I'm doing a Win11 and Office 2024 deploy in a moment I thought I'd finally try and fix it..

 

I got DVV to run as a pupil in the end triggered the even and NO LOG entry is made in the DVV... So there is 2 hours I'll not get back..

 

it maybe a hidden drives issue (c and d) or a blocked desktop issue GPOs that shouldn't do this. as suggested in forums for the message.
