HDMI to DVI / converter question

Got a new DVD player [ not HD, but this one has up-scaling etc ]

On the back is an HDMI connector, on the back of my TV is DVI

Now I am not paying Maplins £30 for a HDMI to DVI cable when you can get a HDMI to HDMI cable for £10 & a HDMI to DVI converter for around £7

 

My question - if I use a HDMI to DVI converter - do I loose any quaility ?

You shouldn't lose any quality, but just so you know - HDMI transfers both video and sound. DVI only transfers video, but not sound.

The sound will be via the coax slot going through to my amp so that won't be a problem.

Any good local electrical store should stock this item, but expect to pay a lot more (as you've found out). Most suppliers offer next day delivery, but it's now 17:47 as I am typing this, so you've probably missed the deadline for next day delivery!

It may or may not work depending on HDCP however.

Does not really matter now, just fired the player up and it's clearly faulty as it won't play a load of my DVDs which play ok on my other players.

Scan.co.uk can have it straight back and give me a full refund - [ not surprised after seing the state of the box when it arrived ]

I got one from asda £10
