Desktop - high spec for home

Where is anyone getting computers from for home now?

 

Minimum spec is i5/Ryzen 5, 16Gb ram. Looking at 32+Gb ram ideally, semi decent graphics as work with lots of images nothing too fancy, could buy off the shelf, support 2 monitors, any recommendations?

I treated myself to a high-end custom build from Scan at at Christmas and am very pleased with it. I very nearly went with CyberPower PC so I’d say they’re worth a shot if you don’t fancy Scan.

 

I got a nzxt h6 flow case, ASUS TUF GAMING X870-PLUS WiFi motherboard & Ryzen 9800x3d cpu, 48 gb ram (2x24), Radeon 7900xt gpu and 2x 4TB WD BLACK SN850X nvme drives. Look and behaves absolutely amazing. I play a lot of games and went large on a few options which you don’t need to do if you don’t want a beast!

Bought my son an AlphaSync from ebuyer along the lines of your spec just over a year ago. It's a full size case, so quite big. It's worked faultlessly. I'm wary giving unequivocal recommendation - their recent Google Reviews don't look great, but TrustPilot ones are far better - sometimes this review site just make life more complicated! I'd rather hear Edugeek comments on ebuyer - they've been great the few times I've used them over the years.

 

SPEC: AlphaSync Gaming PC - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 32GB RAM 1TB SSD RTX 4060 WiFi Windows 11 Home. Cost at the time £900. Similar spec looks to be about £100 more now.

Thanks for the replies, been looking at eBuyer as I get most bits there but higher end I wasnt sure. I've used Overclockers in the past but they are pricey, will have a look at the others. Not in any rush just need to upgrade in next few months ideally.

Go second hand maybe - theres loads of poeple who are obsessed with having the latest and greatest, getting rid of 1 or 2 generation old kit.

I want to buy new as I do get the use out of my machine, I've had this one since around 2018 and its pretty much on 24/7 doing something.

 

Quite happy with my dual 27" monitor setup so not looking to change them, that will be next time.

Just after christmas I bought myself some new bits from CCL (http://www.cclonline.com, although I did click and collect as its relatively local to me) and am very happy with them.

 

AMD Ryzen 5 9600x, ASUS ROG Strix B650-E mobo, 32Gb Corsair Vengance RAM, Noctua NH-D15 cooler,, Gigabyte RTX 4070 GPU, 1Tb WD SN850x NVMe SSD, Fractal Define 7 case.

Honestly, best desktop on the market right now is a Mac Mini hands down best price per performance

Have you looked at Chillblast.com ? you can build your own using expert mode and they provide 5 years support

I was reading PC Pro the other day, they have the Mac Mini M4 (£599 version) listed as their "A-List" mini PC. Second on that list is the Geekom A8 (£899) - I think we bought the previous model for our Bursar to drive his huge great 4K screen and crunch big spreadsheets, which it seems to be doing very well at.

That's helpful to know as I'm after a new PC and was tempted by some of the custom 3XS builds at Scan.

My last two desktops have come from PCspecialist - you can even send them your own case to build your PC in if you dont like any of theirs! Easy to change specs on the fly to ensure it fits your budget.
