School Website WCAG 2.2 Comliance

Has anyone else had an email from their website designer mentioning that all school websites must be WCAG 2.2 compliant by October 24 with a 12-week grace period to address any problems and issues on the site?

 

We got an email earlier this week stating that our site designer could help us with the above for a free. This is the first we have heard of this and we are keen to ensure compliance. We already have an accesible view on our site but our accessibility statement was blank.

 

We are really struggling financially, so I am not going to pay for this, I will just spend the time doing it myself.

I have looked on my website designer's most recently finished sites that they showcase and not a single site has an Accessibility Statemement, yet the designer is saying we should have one. We don't have any other resources than me to look at this, which I feel is something we could use as a 'disproportionate burden' as there is simply no money to pay for this and my time is very limited.

 

Seeing as our site already has an accessible view which can be accessed from the footer and regularly updated policies in PDF format, I am proposing that moving forward, we will do our best to add alt-text to our images in the Parent News Section so that anyone with poor sight, would get a description of what is in the photo.

 

Has anyone else had any experience of this new requirement? I am just surprised at how many schools seem totally oblivious.

Yeh - same panic after seeing that email but the email was purposefully written in a way to incite panic from schools. Pretty dedpicible behaviour if you ask me.

I agree and it really has not gone down well at our school. Particularly as I hade to make a complaint to Juniper last year regarding poor customer service. The annual price had increased yet again so I questioned why they are rising their prices when the customer service is so poor.

 

Really disappointing.
