Windows 11 Administrative Templates

Hi all,

 

Hope you are well.

 

Sorry for the simple question. But I am now working on updating to Windows 11. I have downloaded the Administrative templates, is it better just to add the straight into the main policy definitions folder and overwrite whats there (after taking backup of course) or do you create a separate folder?

 

How do you add the templates into GP from a separate folder if so?

 

Thought I should add, this will be a mixed environment for a while.

Just overwrite them.

 

For your mixed environment, consider creating some WMI filters so that you can target GPOs at a particular version of Windows if required. For instance, you might want to do this if you've got a GPO for configuring the Start menu for Windows 10, but don't want that being applied to Windows 11 machines. You might also need this for setting up Windows Update policies differently for different Windows versions.

My plan was to create brand new OUs for the Windows 11 setup, as a company setup the previous OUs and GPOs and I wanted to started again.
