Chromebooks Open Pages On Startup

We have Chromebooks that open 6 tabs on login some of which are outdated and need deleting but I'm struggling to find the setting to allow me to edit this. I've got as far as Devices / Chrome / Settings / Users & browsers / startup /Pages to load on startup. Under configuration it says 2 sub setting and under inheritance it says google default so I'm guessing if I can find the google default policy I can change it there but where are the policies stored?

EDIT: If you click on "2 subsettings" it should take you to a page where you can select the top of the domain.

Sounds like your in the right place, but bare in mind those settings can be overridden further down the organisational unit tree so there could be settings set further down at the user OU level or at the chromebook OU level depending on how many OU's youve set up.

 

If you stay on that setting but start clicking sub-OUs you might find the OU that has the setting set.

Do you actually see any start pages listed under the policy when you find it? "Google Default" on the policy suggests you're receiving the out-of-the-box Google Defaults, so unlikely to be the half dozen startup pages you mention.

 

On the near left in this view, you should be able to look at an OU structure of your organisation, you'll want to select your students OU to see what's specifically set for that policy, for students (assuming you've got OUs set up, of course....)

 

Another option - are these URLs definitely being set by policy? They could be assigned as Apps or Extensions, I've got a couple of things that load a page on startup. Check Devices | Chrome | Apps & Extensions and see what's in there.

top tip (for chromebooks in general, rather than policies) : If it takes more than one minute to fix then it's quicker to factory reset it. If this doesn't fix it then it's a profile issue.

It's sad but it's true! Powerwash is so fast.

 

Just make sure google drive storage is forced on so that your not deleting pupils files on the actual chromebook.
