Gaming PC Recommendations?

Hello all.

 

Little out of touch on this.

 

Looking at my sons gaming PC, he wants me to upgrade as his main christmas present this year.

 

Currently has 6th Gen i5 24gb Ram. Paired with a 3060 12gb TE Graphics card he had last year.

 

What kind of spec am I looking at?

 

Currently playing a lot of Fortnite, War thunder etc.

 

I'm keeping his current case and power supply (I also have a spare PSU if needed) and his graphics card.

 

What sort of spec would be best and last a few years?

 

 

I have this in my eBuyer basket but wonder if there are better options compared to what I got?

I've got exactly all that which is in your basket (except the NVMe) including the 3060 12gb and i used my existing case and PSU (600w) and it does what i want it to do. I came from a 6th gen i5-6400 with 16gb ram.

Thank you. The NVMe i will swap out for a 1tb. Also nice to know that someone else has some build that I'm thinking of [emoji846]

 

Also. It's within the budget I have set aside for this.

If you could squeeze a little more out of the budget then AMD chips would be a great way to go, the AM5 platform isn't going away anytime soon which leaves plenty of room for easy upgrades in the future.

 

A Ryzen 5 7600 with motherboard and the same RAM / 1TB storage comes in ~£400.

Looks good, just don't forget the f-series doesn't have onboard graphics (not really a problem as you have a separate GPU, but it has caught me out with troubleshooting in the past).

I also agree about more storage, moden games with "good" graphics are very large, so lots of storage is needed.

You looking to buy new or second hand I actually have my last 2 AMD gaming PCs lying around here as I've just upgraded.

 

I agree about the storage - really if you want more than 5 triple A games off steam your gonna need a 1TB drive. If you got a lot of games then maybe a 2TB drive!

Seconded on storage - I've 3TB of SSD storage (1tb + 2tb) and still have my lesser played items on another 2TB spinning drive. GTA 5, RDR2 (and 1 when it arrives end of the month no doubt), Fallout 4, Cyberpunk all eat storage like Chrome eats RAM.

I can't see if that's a RAM kit you've got there, but if not make sure to buy a pair of modules rather than just 1.
