Microsoft OneDrive taking hours to sync for users

Hi,

I am getting so many users reporting to me that OneDrive is taking hours and hours to sync for them.

I have taken a look and can see that it is often showing 300,000 + files or changes to sync.

From the locations, I can see they are mainly in shared folders which staff have added to their OneDrive through Sharepoint.

Hs anyone found a way to slim down this sync time?

The systems are RM systems with UV-E profiles. It seems to be happening more in public places such as Staff Room computers as opposed to individual teaching computers.

I had a try on Monday on a non-RM, Windows 11 Intune connected system and even that one was showing 317,939 changes to process once I logged in.

It took hours to sync. What ends up happening is a user makes changes to files in their onedrive, signs out after an hour or so and their changes are not synced because OneDrive is so busy dealing with hundreds of thousands of other files.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Don't use onedrive on shared computers, and def don't use shared drives in onedrive on shared computers

Thanks, if I disable this as the support page suggests, what would happen if users try and access the sharepoint share on OneDrive? Would it just not show so they would need to access it via the browser?

The issue I have is the browser is not displaying files in the correct format, see here .

Since I have moved the site from on prem my docs and shared drives over to Onedrive, I recieved nothing but abuse from staff who say it is s#it and doesn't work. Whatever workaround I am providing, they are complaining saying it doesn't work, doesn't display correctly, isn't syncing. I can't seem to win and I am honestly on the verges of sticking a mapped drive back on trasferring everything back and letting them all get on with it.

We've seen some very slow sync's this week. Greatest impact on productivity for users who have use the "shortcut in my onedrive" feature to sync large departmental SharePoint Team site document library.

This is how they have added it and these shortcuts appear to be causing the delay as when I look at the sync, it is processing hundreds of thousands of files which are all in the Sharepoint folders which were added by adding shortcut.
