Kensington Key replacements

Anybody managed to get replacement kensington keys - their register and retrieve service wants an EORI number which we don't have.

Unfortunately from experience it's cheaper to replace the locks, but at least for any stuck locked, they can be picked in a couple of seconds with a bit of stiff cardboard!

If you have lots of them, try another key as we have a couple of hundred of them and sometimes if a key has been mislaid, another key with a different number can (more often than not) open the lock with a missing key.

If students have lockers, your estates staff may have a source of compatible barrels (and possibly keys, assuming cheap wafer locks) already.

 

Also a good excuse to learn how to pick a lock, but run it by your HT/Line manager first so they can head off any "er....can we have a word about Scifigirl?" concerns.

I got one off of Amazon a few years back and has been very useful when we've put a padlock on something like a HP MicroServer and misslaid the key! Easier to do than you'd think and the Lock Picking Lawyer on YouTube has lots of videos on how to do it...

The cylindrical barrel lock pick off Amazon is great once you've got the hang of it. Any locks we can't find the key for don't stand much of a chance once I get involved! The only downside is once it's picked unless you're very careful you can't use it again, but I guess for this it's not really a problem.
