mikeprice Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Hi all I have asked about this before but things move on and charity admin moves slower than salary negotiation for "other staff" at a school!! Anyway - the local Food Bank needs 2 - and possibly more - laptops for the staff and volunteers to use They be used as pure laptops - but also as desktops connected to a monitor and with a wired mouse The manager wants new machines and likes HP In reality they will only be used normally for web access to the Trust's web site which does all the work and does all the storage of data they will also use them fro simple stuff on Word and occasionally Published for forms and posters very basic stuff Now - the question is spec. I am sort of out of date - but I was thinking any basic laptop with at least 8 GB memory and 2 slots in case of needing an increase in the future plus a reasonable SSD - size not important as they should not be storing much on there except for quick access to a few commonly used posters and forms - the rest should be on the trust site and/or OneDrive processor - AMD Ryzen 5 5625U or similar screen size - 15 seems to be OK - any bigger would just make it more difficult to carry around something like https://www.ebuyer.com/1535158-hp-255-g9-15-6-inch-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-5625u-6a1u9ea-abu any comments - they are finally thinking of putting to forward for approval (just before I go away on holiday!!!) thanks
elsiegee40 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Usually “wants new” comes about because they have no understanding of the quality of stuff from the genuine refurb market. Surely the merits of refurb from someone trustworthy like @ICTDirect_Dave could be sold to them? I’m sure he could recommend a decent spec . 1
Millgate_Jon Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Hi Might be able to help with this, we have some older stock from RMA`s we can`t sell but we try to keep our charitable work relatively local. I see your profile says Widnes, is that still the case and I presume the foodbank is over that way too? We are Sheffield based but I can always ask for you........ Cheers Jon. 1
