I'm just setting up the new Teams for September. All our AD accounts sync up to M365. I've created a security group in AD for each of the five tutor groups with the idea that I then create "7A French", "7A Geography" etc. and add the security group with the "A" tutor group kids in it. If I try this is teams (web-based), I go to "Add member" and type the name of the security group, which it recognises and suggests. As soon as I click on it, the dialogue box just disappears. No errors, pop-ups or anything! It doesn't add anyone to the team. If I try it in the Teams admin centre, it doesn't recognise the name of the security group when I start typing it.

What am I missing? What's the best way to add the same 30 kids to around a dozen new Teams, and then repeat a further four times for the other tutor groups?

Thank you

Powershell isn't happy either. I've group I'm trying to add up as a Global Security group in AD. At first it didn't have an email address, so I added one. Does the group need to be setup a particular way? Does it need to be setup on Entra rather than AD?

Remember that a Team is a group, a M365 group. If you can add users directly to the group associated with the team with a script or whatever then you're golden.

Figured it out!

Because the students haven't started yet, I hadn't enabled their accounts in AD. Enabled them, and can now add my on-prem groups to teams.....
