Discovery1031 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Hi Everyone, Hope everyone is having a good summer, I am looking at upgrading our SIMs server from 2012r2 to 2022 and at the same time changing the AD domain. Has anyone had experience with either of those and is there anything I need to lookout for or do? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Callum
psynegy Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Moving to a new AD domain, or performing a domain rename?
Discovery1031 Posted August 8, 2024 Author Posted August 8, 2024 Sorry yeah moving to a new AD domain.
psynegy Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Expect to have some SOLUS pain - possibly forevermore... We did a domain rename (SHOCK HORROR!) and SOLUS was never quite the same again, having to select the domain each time. Support gave up trying to fix it... It was functional enough... to migrate to a different MIS. You'll need to push out updated ini's with new server addresses. Other than that, I don't think it was too bad.
chaplic Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 If it helps I took SIMS on windows 7 in a workgroup, joined it to a domain, upgraded in place to windows 10. Removed it from a domain and Azure AD joined it, upgraded in place to windows 11. Along the way I did a frig so that azure ad joined teacher laptops could access the sims share, but overall it was pretty low drama.
