OneDrive and Folder redirectoin

Good afternoon,

 

Trying to get my head around something and confusing myself with the potential setup.

 

I have inherited a network that is changing from one MS Tenant to another.

 

The used One Drive and we have just migrated everything to their new OneDrive.

We have folder redirect set up for desktops.

 

Now If i set up a new OneDrive app it allows me to backup desktops, but i have to select it, which i think some staff are using, but not everyone, so need to find a solution that works both ways.

 

For those users that have backup set, if they don't run OneDrive then it displays their network desktop.

 

I guess, I'm just looking for the best way to have desktops setup up, and how to link OneDrive to access everything from home, nest practice really.

so im thinking that a user logs on, with OneDrive running in the background, they get their network desktop and can save to this, at which point OneDrive back this up, but this seems too long-winded whereas their desktop could be just a OneDrive folder, can this be done?

If they're still getting network folder desktop then there must be a folder redirection GPO in place that needs removing?

 

There a load of GPO's you can set to silently sync desktop/docs/pics so they don't need to select them manually.

 

Personally I don't redirect the desktop to OneDrive, and just redirect via GPO to the public desktop folder which stops them saving anything in there.

To add in my experience you need to remove the old user profiles after a folder redirection change.
