Hi,

We have the emergency alert button on SIMS but would like to restrict this to only a few staff members - how do I do this?

I would question why you would want to do this.

Would you restrict who can press the button on a fire alarm? Of course you wouldn’t. It’s for safety.

The same applies to the SIMS emergency button. Every member of staff should be able to press it. If there’s a knife attack in Mrs Smith’s classroom, you don’t want to wait for the Head of Department to find out before the alarm is raised.

Indeed this was my response but the Headteacher is insistent...

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I suspect and hope the answer is no… thank goodness. Can you imagine the press coverage if there was an incident made worse because the button couldn’t be pressed because only certain staff could press it?!

I would raise this with your DSL as a Safeguarding issue. Maybe they can talk sense into the Head

There's an emergency alert button??

Yes, it needs enabling in the settings though.

And to echo the thoughts above, it is off for all, or on for all, otherwise it makes it entirely pointless. Headteacher in this case needs some more information to help them understand.
