Create Apple ID from SIMS - Any automated way?

We've been an iPad school for many, many years, and have always created Managed Apple ID's manually using Salamander and uploading to School Apple Manager via SFTP.

 

SIMS is our MIS.

 

Is there a more modern way? Automated? I know there's directory sync, but this never worked with SIMS. I've just had an email from Apple about Claris Connect but this seems paid, and doesn't mention SIMS.

 

We use Locker Connect for everything else, but I'm not aware if this integrates with Apple School Manager either last time I looked!

 

Has anyone found an automated/sync way, rather than an annual/termly manual upload?

Have you tried the Azure AD sync route? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/saas-apps/apple-school-manager-provision-tutorial

 

I assume all your users from SIMs sync to Azure anyway so might be easier link if that's got what you want in it's data

Cheers, will look into this, although we use a different Apple id format than their email address in Entra (historic but now ingrained...).

If you go down the Entra Federated route you will have the change the Apple ID format as this will have to be same as the email address used for Entra, anyone using their Entra credentials for Personal Apple ID purchases will also have to change this.
