Is a difference in Windows ISO OS language enough an in-place upgrade failure?

We have Windows 10 Education 22H2 deployed across our site and it's using the English (en-US ) ISO. I am looking for perform an in place upgrade via SCCM on some devices to Windows 11 Education 23H2, but using the English International (en-GB) ISO. Would the ISO language difference be enough to cause my in place upgrade to fail with error "0xC1900204 (decimal 3247440388"), which translates to "MigChoice: Selected install choice is not available". Unless they've changed it recently you can't upgrade using a different language, you'll need to download the same language ISO and use that.

Thanks for that. I thought that was the case, just wasn't sure.

 

Now my quandry is; do I stick with the en-US version for an easier upgrade path but be on the 'wrong' version, or take the pain now and re-image the machines with the en-GB version?

I ran into this getting to 1709. You can run a dism to apply the language en-gb.

 

If you have MECM in place it may be possible.

 

Re-Image would be easier though.

Personally I'd never kick a problem further down the road.

Yeah I'd deployed quite a en-us staff laptops and then ran into this same issue, I fixed them by reimaging as soon as I could.

 

If it's student devices that can be done with a bit more ease then get them done as soon as possible.

 

Also have you looked at moving to Windows Update for Business? In theory you wouldn't need to worry about languages, just a thought.

 

Ive moved our sccm updates role now to intune and so not had any major problems.
