Impero - teacher 16:9 | student 4:3 - share screen

We've pushed out a load of 22" widescreen monitors to our teacher machines however the machines that students use are still 4:3.

 

When a teacher shares their 16:9 screen to the students the students see a squashed version of what the teacher is broadcasting.

 

Is the only way to get round this at the moment to do a "partial screen share' by selecting the region of the screen to show the students?

 

Obviously this issue only occurs when the teacher does a full broadcast screen rather than a windowed. But if the teacher does a windowed broadcast the students can then close the broadcast.

 

I highly doubt Impero will bring any new features to their onprem console now - waiting to be proved wrong.

 

I guess the option is to put the teacher machine back to a 4:3 until the school finds some money to replace yet another 200 monitors.

All studnet machines in IT Rooms (5 left) are 4:3 at the moment.

 

The only things to do would be:

A. Put 4:3 screens back to the teacher's machines

B. See if anyone has a boat load of wide screens (doesn't have to be 22") that are getting rid of as would accept them - the machines in question still run VGA or DP to VGA adapters.

C. Set the teacher's screen so that it's set to 1280 x 1024 bjt the image will look terrible

D. Get teachers to use the show partial screen mode.

To be honest it's not really a "software" thing for impero to fix it's a hardware upgrade thing fopr you to fix.....

 

You can't expect to mix 4:3 and 16:9 anywhere as it just isn't gonna work as you cant squish 1920x1080 into 1280x1024 and have still it look good.

 

We ran teacher widescreens and pupil 4:3 like you but ended up having to get in cheap 22" 1080p screens for the pupils so that the teachers and pupils could see the screens properly etc. No way around it to be honest.

For us there is no money or so we are told. I'm raising this issue with my SLT link at our next meeting but for them "cheap" means free or the noise budgies make.

It is a software problem, Impero should be added black bars. Ask them for a bug fix.

How is it a software problem? How are black bars going to ensure a 1920x1080 image fits into a 1280x1024 TFT?

Depends on the scaling algorithm you use. But it'll be fine. The problem is the AR, not the resolution.

 

Easy solution: Change the teacher's computer's screen mode to a 4:3 one while you're broadcasting
