Help my failing memory, Microsoft Network in a box (DVD)? IIRC based on Server 2003?

Just chatting with one of my technicians about his Uni dissertation,

What was the offer from Microsoft (quite a few years ago 15 maybe?) that built you an education focused Server 2003 AD network from a single ISO/DVD?

It created an educational focused network, all the AD and Group policies for locking down workstations etc?

i think it was designed for one of the middle eastern countries like Saudi Arabia?

Yes, it was called Learning Network Manager and we used to host a copy here (with Microsofts permission).

And it was about 15 years back!

I have only just binned my DVD of it!!! And that was a serious blast from the past.

We used to host it. I'll have to ask @ZeroHour if we still have the ISO of it knocking around, just for curiosity's sake. I lost my disk years ago. It may be in an old CD binder somewhere and I'm really not keen on having a rummage for it!

Theoretically, it would be possible to recreate similar using PowerShell et al ... but as this is already covered by the good folk at places like SalamanderSoft ... who will bespoke things for you and support it ... it is probably just something to look back on and laugh about.

IIRC, I did have a try at setting up a small LAN with it, but it wasn't as easy as you might expect. Given it was kinda an unofficial product and rushed out for a particular task, it's hardly surprising.

MSLS provided an ISO/DVD image containing all the necessary components to create a network, including Active Directory, Group Policies, security settings, and other administrative tools. This was a convenient solution for teaching students network administration and Microsoft technology. The MSLS program has been in demand in various countries, including Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia, where education has played an important role in the development of technological infrastructure.

The product was commissioned by the Microsoft Education EMEA team, and was built by ITWorx (primarily by one engineer) with support from a few UK resources (folk like Andy Dent/Innovit UK).

Hey Steve, sounds like you're recalling Microsoft's "Windows MultiPoint Server." It was indeed a solution aimed at educational environments, offering a Server 2003 based setup from a single DVD. It allowed multiple users to access a single computer simultaneously, often used in classrooms.
