Maglock Magnets

Hi,

 

How does anyone make the magets extremely secure?

 

Ours come with them little two threaded screws so just wondering if it was even possible to get them out and put something more substanale in

They do tend to work loose over time if just left, we like to put a dab of threadlock on them. Also have found them to be stronger than some of the doors / walls. Ended up having to rebuild a door frame the other week after a kid tried a flying dropkick on the isolation room Maglock 1 wall nil. Doors slamming too hard against them also doesn't help.

ye spent an hour last night as i was bored tightening them up, just some doors seem to get worse than others so just wondering if there was anything else i was missing

Loctite is key on these, they get a lot of abuse with being slammed, push, kicked you name it.

Yeah Locktite Threadlocker is the what to use, go blue unless you want to be heating the screws up to ~ 250c to get them out if it comes to removing them in the future.

"medium strength" is what you need to look for with threadlock. Not all manufacturers use the same colour code.

 

There are also higher strength maglocks available, the common ones are only 180Kg holding strength, I think we found some 300 or 600 KG ones last time there was a problem. But its better if the lock pops that the wall falling down. These will have thicker screws/bolts.

also when ours were newly fitted I found they got booted in all the time but since those kids (i.e. who saw them getting fitted) left, the kids who joined the school with them already installed try a lot less to boot them in. So we haven't had any damaged in years now.
