Paxton Net2 - Fire Alarm Interface

With Paxton Net2, is a single fire alarm relay needed alongside the break glass units regardless of the number of doors?

 

I have 2 doors within metres of each other. One door currently has Paxton running in standalone mode (Switch2). I am intending to have access control installed on the second door.

 

Running both in standalone mode will require two alarm interfaces however I am now thinking if we were to use Paxton Net2 then a single alarm interface is all that will be required but I am not 100% sure.

 

Can somebody running Paxton Net2 confirm?

If you are running Net2 Pro then yes, you can "zone" doors, fire input into a door triggers the other doors to go into fire mode.

 

There is an argument that the Fire interface should be fail safe, but then you will already have green break glass points should you need to get out in a hurry!

So Net2 can release all doors if a fire alarm relay is connected to one of the NET2 boards. However this is dependant on the server being online and working. Essentially it shouldn't be relied on for life safety.

 

That said if the doors are really close, you could swap the power supply in the existing door so it is sufficient to feed both doors and use the single fire relay to cut the supply to both locks.

This is how I often have done it, had a single say 12V 5A PSU to feed all the mags in the area and linked a single relay through it.

 

I'm wary about relying on the 'break glass' in emergencies, although that's what they're for people can panic in those situations and don't think straight - I once witnessed someone who thought they were trapped because their fob wasn't working and got so worked up they tried to kick the door down, even though there was a break glass right next to the reader...

From what we have been told the net2 relay can't be relied upon, and that to meet requirement a physical relay as well as a breakglass is required for fire routes.

 

We now install audible break glasses so when the kids lift the covers an alarm is triggered.

If it has a spare pole on the break glass you can wire it to an input on the Net2 controller. Then using and trigger and action get it to email student support and facilities teams when used. This was very useful for us.
