Opinions on Aruba Instant AP

Hi All

 

We are currently looking to extend our current 40 APs on Aruba instant with an additional 40 of differing models.

 

What I would like to know is:

 

Did you come across any limitations of Aruba Instant in terms of AP limit, mixing of models, speed, cluster size etc.

 

Any info related would be great as we'd rather not have to pay for the Aruba cloud licensing.

If memory serves, you can use up to 127 of them in a single cluster before you have to use a controller. They may have upped that by now; I haven’t used them in about three years.

 

As long as they’re all on the same firmware version and all of the APs that you’re running are capable of running that firmware, I don’t foresee any problems.

We have a cluster of 84 505s and 565s working well.

 

Same as above, so long as all models support the same firmware build you should be OK.

 

Also a few newer clusters of 615s (70 APs) and 515s (40APS) all working great. Only one we're using with Aruba Central.

Our trust have Aruba APs ranging from IAP-105s to IAP-515s.

 

We are finding the guest options for onboarding are very limited compared Ruckus and Unify.

 

Other than that, you should be able to use the APs in a controllerless environment with one of the APs acting as the Master which is porbably what you are doing already.

 

The Aruba Cloud management however costs a fortune!
