That is a very old document comparing Essentials and Essentials Plus.

 

I am pretty sure that there are only 3 flavours now - Essentials Plus, Standard and Foundation

From what I can gather, Standard is only licensed for 1 server with 1 CPU. If you have more than that, you'll need Essentials or Essentials Plus, which is up to 6 CPUs/3 hosts I believe. https://communities.vmware.com/t5/vSphere-Upgrade-Install/Standard-vs-Essentials/td-p/2897248. I don't think Standard or Essentials does vMotion, High Availability,

CPU licensing no longer exists it is all per code now. Essentials no longer exists just the Plus now

 

Essentials plus is a kit is now a 96 core kit

 

Standard is a minimum of 16 cores per cpu

All editions now come with VCenter bundled in at no extra cost, if you are running essentials you can't manage that in the same VCenter as any Standard or Foundation licensed hosts but if you license the Essentials as standard you can, this is handy if you have multiple sites running VMWare as you have the single pane of glass for managing them.

 

Basic level support no longer exists, you get production support with the subscription licenses now.

 

Moving from Ent plus to Standard licensing our costs are roughly what we were paying previously, the main differences as far as we are concerned is loss of Storage DRS and distributed switching. We provision our VM switches on each host via PowerShell so the switching isn't a problem, the only thing we'd lose is the storage DRS which isn't a real issue either.

 

Ask about pricing for a 3 year commitment as well, there were some savings there too.
