Konica device notification emails with embedded Papercut MF

I've tried to raise this a number of times with our MFD managed print supplier but it seems it's falling on deaf ears or they haven't got the capacity to help on this "off the script" issue so i'm taking matters into my own hands and trying to sort this myself. After all, if you want something doing, do it yourself!

We run a fleet of Konica MFDs and one of our schools has the Embedded Papercut MF installed on it.

We've been wanting to receive device notifications such as low staples, when the device has a jam, when the device is in error, out of paper, when the device is low or out of toner.

After a lot of testing and putting one of the devices on it's own mini network connected to the net via a 4G router, it appears that Papercut MF completely overrides all the notification settings on the device.

The rest of the schools don't have their devices on Papercut MF and they are able to receive these notifications without any issues.

Everything is configured as it should be in the settings, in fact we've copied setting for setting from one device to another yet the notifications still won't send.

Does anyone have a magic solution to this as receiving these notifications would mean the repro dept and the school's IT Support dept would be able to efficiently resolve the issues with these devices.

I think I recall that our MFD supplier installed a service on our print server that notified them of low toner directly. I think there were also options for low supply notifications for other consumables (staples and paper)

Is a similar service installed on your print server thus, somehow, intercepting any outgoing messages you would expect to receive, instead trying to send them to your supplier, or another recipient configured by them?

We had Toshiba MFDs before these Konicas and they worked a treat.

I've tried putting one of the Konicas on their own mini network and could successfully send a scanned document to myself via email but the notifications just failed to work.

I am too long removed from it to recall in detail, but I do remember that the print server notification service was much newer than the MFD deployment.

I think the notification service was compatible with a specific range of MFDs. If there was a printer or MFD on our network that was not supported by the notification service, then events or requests for supplies from the MFD would not go via the notification service. Perhaps this explains the behaviour of your Konica in your test?

Ask the managed print provider to add it@ and reprographics@ to the System Notifications emails under PaperCut MF > Options > Notifications?

Each field takes a comma-separated list of email addresses.

Alternatively. pull the data via SNMP (I like LibreNMS, other tools are available) and issue alerts from there instead.

Finally got this sorted, the managed print company and Konica (also Develop) were next to no help.

Anyone else facing this issue make sure the following are set on the copiers:

Network > TCP/IP Setting 1 > Make sure LLMNR is turned off | have an external DNS host (8.8.8.8) listed in the DNS Server IP settings.

Network > Email Setting > POP > nothing enabled

Network > Email setting > The values are correct in this section, had to add a From Address - not sure if this made any difference.

System Settings > Machine setting > Make sure most of the information in this page is complete

Worth adding name & Location of the device

Network > HTTP Server Settings > Printer Information

On the perimeter firewall, make sure DNS and Email are added as an allow rule for the copier IP addresses.

Once I had all these areas configured, stuff started to work.
