I have just been asked a question about a projector and I'm having a Friday afternoon brain freeze.

Output port on the projector that you then connect a monitor to so you can see the same thing on both (handy for presentations where you're facing away from the screen). The better sort of projector installers provide two VGA ports on the wall, one to plug a computer into to send the signal up to the projector and the other to plug a monitor into to get the signal back again. I think, in that case, the "re-drive" is actually a VGA splitter device with a bit of powered signal boosting at the computer end of things, avoids having to run a VGA cable all the way up to the projector and a second one all the way back again.

but surely you will need to re-cable all the way back down from the projector to the monitor? otherwise how will the monitor get its input?

Because the wall-plug with the VGA ports in it isn't just a wall-plug, it also has a bit of circuitry in to split the VGA signal before it goes off to the projector and puts a copy out to the second VGA port for you to plug a monitor into. I think "re-drive" implies something slightly fancier than a simple two-way VGA splitter, maybe a powered signal booster of some kind to stop the signal degrading after being split, although I'm not sure about that.
