RTi Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Hello i have just uploaded 1.5.4 onto our bgfl site.. but want to know what folder perms i need to set. currently they are 755. do i need to change them to 777 ? TIA
rob_f Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Probably not. 755 is: 7 readable / writable / executable by the Owner, 5 readable / executable by the Group, 5 readable / executable by Other web visitors. whereas 777 is: 7 readable / writable / executable by the Owner, 7 readable / writable / executable by the Group, 7 readable / writable / executable by Other web visitors. Been trying to find you a good explanation, maybe Perl Scripts Installation, FTP, File Permissions will help?
RTi Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 hmm.. I couldnt configure the FTP layer options during install... it kept on saying directory not found... and i cant complete step 11 on the install as i get the following error. An Error Has Occurred: Unable to open config file to write!
alonebfg Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 the reason for this is the root or www or httpdocs file cant be written to so when it tries to create a config file it fails one whay people have got around it is to make root file 775 or 777 till install compleate then put it back to what it was but make sure you dont change the permissions of the other files.
contink Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Better yet, think seriously about recompiling your PHP and Apache2 to use the phpsuexec option as this then ties the run permissions to the account user instead of the usual "nobody" user. I've yet to get this organised myself (lack of time) but it's supposed to save a lot of the grief, especially with the insane perms that Joomla often tries to get the unwary to allow...
RTi Posted July 21, 2008 Author Posted July 21, 2008 the site is hosted onour LA Servers, so i have no control. I done some googling and at the FTP Layer step.. i entered a . for the root access and it accepted my settings as valid.. (still had to manually change perms on the docman config file..) i then uploaded the the google maps plugin.. and it seems to have worked..
