problems with PC. blowing power supply

I rent a house out and the tenant has a new custom built PC - he plugged it in and power supply went bang.

He got a replacement PC from the company and exactly the same happened.

The fuses tripped but could be reset ok.

He has lived there for 3 years and is a good tenant, never had problems before.

He does run a lot of stuff on the circuit.

I can get an electrician out to check circuits but wonder what is going on?Any ideas?

Electrical safety check and certificate was done ok 3 years ago.

I'm guessing it's definitely not an older switchable ATX Power supply where you have to switch between 115 and 230 volts.

 

Did it break on the same power socket output - just wondering if there was a wiring issue on that socket / ring main.

 

Did the company test the system before shipping? Just in case it's a bad batch of PSUs. Also is the PSU specced for the amount of power draw the PC is in? Just thinking has he plugged something else in (whether external or internal) after the unit was shipped that may have caused the issue.

Look at the motherboard in the PC. Look for scorch marks or blown capacitors. More likely that something downstream is damaging the PSU. Unless the voltage is hideously high, which, you'd think, would have been spotted earlier.

I would suggest surge protection on your power point - it is possible this may help reduce the risk.
