Smoothwall - VLAN setup

Bit of a daft question if anything, but it's been a long time since I played with SW at this level and the people that installed it for us might as well not have bothered.

 

So, smoothie installed with an internal and external interface in typical fashion, for transparent setup. Internal interface is basic on our default vlan with a set IP on a /22. However, only machines on that vlan can speak to it, so I've set up a trunk port and VLAN interfaces for each vlan we have. I just want to sanity check the setup!

So, am I best keeping the default internal one active, and setting an IP address on each VLAN on the smoothie? Do I also need to create a VLAN interface on the trunk port for the default network with a second IP? Don't want to create a loopback type issue, but can't otherwise see how everything's going to interface otherwise!

The Smoothwall doesn't need an interface in every vlan assuming you have a core switch sat behind it doing your routing on your LAN.

 

On Smoothwall check you have rules defined in Network > Routing > Subnets covering your vlans.

This is our config for port 1, with VLANs, pretty much as you described.

 

MainLAN is the LAN (which although segmented, all can talk to this IP)

The other VLANs are wifi VLANs.
