Evening,

So, having got Zimbra working, the LA opening ports and the domain's mx pointed properly, I'm now looking at AD integration.

All of our staff have STAFFxxx (@mcc.internal) for a username and their email address is [email protected] so I'd like them to be able to log into Zimbra with STAFFxxx but for them to send/receive mail using [email protected].

I'm trying to work out the simplest way to do it but am struggling.

Would I be better setting up the account as per norm STAFFxxx (which works/logs in OK), and creating an alias for [email protected] AND setting the canonical address to this alias?

Does anybody understand what I'm poorly trying to explain?

Thanks for your time.

Kim.

PS. Next question is whether to buy the Network Edition based upon its Calendar sharing etc that I don't think exists in the Open Source one.

Mailboxes for most mail servers should be based on usernames and then the address as a mail alias. The principle is the same whether it is Zimbra, Exchange or FirstClass and dates back to sendmail IIRC

It's all greek to me :)

Cheers Cybernerd.

I suppose my next question is about the calendaring and finally whether my dipped box (dual 2.8Ghz old school xeon with 2gb of ram) is up to the job or whether I should bump the ram up and see what I can do.

Cheers :)

Calendar sharing works fine in the Open Source Edition of Zimbra. The only functionality that you don't get is the MAPI connector for using Outlook as your mail client. I explained the reasons for not being able to use Outlook any more to our Outlook users and they are now perfectly happy with the web interface (barring the fact that the reminder doesn't make a noise).

As for your username thing... I think your first suggestion is probably best.

Does too!

kmount,

I have a pair of VB/Perl scripts that maintain/sync accounts between our AD and the ZCS server, including aliases. Will post back here when I'm back at work if you're interested.

EDIT: On the RAM usage, our server has 8GB RAM. During regular usage (~150 web client sessions) it uses 3-4GB.

Hello;

I am using Zimbra with Active Directory. I made the authentication integration but when user change password in webmail, AD account's password doesn't change. I want bi-directional synchronization. Do you have any scripts that does it? Also bulk user creation script from AD into Zimbra is needed.

Thanks in advance..
