Steve101 Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Anybody else getting staff with thousands of these shortcuts on the desktops?
midweek Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Since Edge updated last week we are getting an extra Edge icon with a jaunty briefcase (Edge for Business). Linked to us forcing a work/school profile for users I think. Nothing to do with that?
Steve101 Posted September 4, 2023 Author Posted September 4, 2023 I think it has something to do with Sync'd onedrive desktops. The edge shortcut is created during login, or opening edge. if this occurs before the desktop is sync'd then it creates a new one. Here's a thread about it - 'Work - Edge' Desktop Shortcut Reappears after deleting and reopening Edge Browser - Microsoft Community Hub 1
thimon Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 I use Group Policy to delete these and Google Chrome duplicate shortcuts from user’s Desktop.

Frodo_Baggins Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Annoyingly I don't think there is a solution for Intune Hi Steve, did you find anything later for Intune for this? I'm getting this with a few users and likely not related but they are saying that it's slowing down their PC's.

I advised all staff to update Edge, on intune I set the Onedrive settings to not sync shortcut files from the desktop. I hoped this would stop the duplication of files. I haven't had any further reports of issues after making these changes, but I don't think Microsoft have fixed the issue yet.

I've enabled the Onedrive\SharePoint policy "Exclude specific kinds of files from being uploaded" and then added keyword with wildcard but still seems to be happening (applied to all devices)
Steve101 Posted September 13, 2023 Author Posted September 13, 2023 (edited) The key part is getting all staff to update Edge, and actively remove the shortcuts themselves. I applied to users not devices. Below is what I set, I don't know if it's helping but had to do something. Edited September 13, 2023 by Steve101 1
