Does anyone know of or use a database for student performance recording?

A teacher approached me today asking if she could have a database to monitor student performance. She had a plan of what she wanted included, the stats were basically results against average attainment percentiles in Maths and English, and this then charted through the pupils time at school.

She wants all staff to be able to make basic queries of the database, and to pull up charts etc..

In a lazy mood, but is their nothing on sourceforge?

SIMS has an assessment module, I think, which does this. If you don't support SIMS in your school, I would point them towards this since it won't be another app for you to support ;)

Had a quick look Ric_ - nothing obvious - one in planning stage :(

I did think sims as I wrote the post - but I think she wants more than it does - unless of course you know different!!! :p

I find it best to keep well clear of SIMS. I do know that lots of people are using the assessment module thingy though so it must have some functionality.

We do use the assessment module here, but the data this teacher had in mind is about 6 fields more complex than is achieveabble by that I think. I coul be wrong.

Thanks Geoff i'll see if I can see anything on Moodle.

Ask your sims coordinator about what assessment manger can do, if he/she doesn't know, they should have the number for your support team, either local or national in bedford. Ring them up and tell them what you want to do, and they will tell you is Assessment manger can do it.

Our SIMS man is keen to do this for us, so I'll wait and see how it shapes up at the beginnng of next acedemic year.

For OSS schooltool.org looks like it may develop into somthing useful. But it only appears to be at the early stages of development at the moment.

Just joined and am having a browse. If you are looking for a whole school MIS (including assessment), SIMS isn't bad, a bit of a fiddle, but what isn't these days.

Lots of schools are migrating from SIMS to CMIS for the very reason that Assessment if far more flexible in its useage.

The Secondary school I worked in changed over in 2001 and have been able to really track student progress etc far easier than was possible in SIMS.
