Exchange 2019 - Disabling or Archiving Mailboxes

Good afternoon all,

 

This is the first year I've had to worry about leavers processes and I'm wondering what the best practice is for staff and student mailboxes, I notice that disabling users in AD doesn't have any impact on the associated mailbox.

 

Is there something I should be doing to ensure these mailboxes are no longer active or being backed up (that's my main concern)?

With Leaver mailboxes we convert them to a shared mailbox until they are no longer needed
