amelmoe Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Hello all! We're in the process of trying to resuscitate our HP MSM765 wireless controller following a hard drive failure. We've located a second hand drive from eBay but it's running an ancient version of the firmware and it won't update to the oldest firmware I have. Anyone have a copy of firmware version 5.7.5.0 or 6.2.1.1 for an MSM765 which I think will allow me to upgrade to the versions I have? I've got HP/HPE/Aruba/whatever they're called now support looking for some but I have a feeling they may come back and tell me where to go given the age of the kit! Many thanks in advance! Alex.

Intra Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Thank you very much! Our initial problem was, that the HDD drive from our MSM765zl module had a fault and is not working anymore. We tried resetting it with a new HDD, after which the module did not boot at all, probably because there is nothing on the drive. Booting/flashing from a USB drive is therefore not working either, due to the missing OS. Has anyone any suggestions, on how to boot the module correctly again? Do we need a special image for the boot process? Thank you very much for your help so far!
amelmoe Posted November 17, 2023 Author Posted November 17, 2023 Hi Intra, You need a hard drive with the MSM765 software already on it - there's no way of loading the software on to a blank drive. We purchased an MSM765 drive from eBay which had a version of the firmware on it. We also raised a support case with HPE as some networking kit has a lifetime warranty and they sent us a new drive under warranty! I have a collection of spare drives now so could send you one if you like? I could also try grabbing a hard drive image on Monday which you might be able to load on to a blank drive and then get the controller to boot? Might be worth trying HPE first - we got our drive next day from them! Alex.

Therefore our ticket will be forwarded and it probably will take a while. Both getting an image or a drive would help us in getting our wifi-infrastructure to work again! When I was updating mine, I found that browsing through HP support forums and tech sites dedicated to legacy systems helped a lot. A few users were kind enough to share their firmware files, so maybe try reaching out in those communities. Also, checking social media groups focused on networking gear might yield some leads.
